Supporter Spotlight: Norman Reimer

Norman Reimer

Why I Serve on the Board of Directors of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty?

“I support NCADP because of the important work the organization does to mobilize against capital punishment. NCADP is moving the country toward an end to capital punishment, and I want to be a part of making this happen.”

Why I oppose the death penalty?

“I oppose the death penalty because it is wrong. The state should not kill. The death penalty is barbaric. It is antiquated. Much of the world has left it behind. But if those are not reasons enough to abandon capital punishment, there is one more reason that trumps all other considerations: the criminal justice in this country is flawed, it makes mistakes, it is unreliable and it propagates injustice. When those injustices result in wrongful conviction, that is intolerable. When they wrongly lead to death sentences, it is simply unacceptable. That’s why I am totally opposed to the death penalty, and it is time to end it.

Norman Reimer, a current member of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, has been a criminal defense lawyer for his entire professional career, 28 years as a practitioner and for the past 7 years as the Executive Director of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
