“Opposition to the Death Penalty” at Huntley United Methodist Church

Via the Billings Gazette:

The Montana Abolition Coalition presents a program on “Opposition to the Death Penalty” at 6:30 p.m. at Huntley United Methodist Church, 139 Peritse Ave., Huntley Project.

The presentation will feature Delbert Tibbs and Diane “Weezee” Cote.

The coalition said in a press release that Tibbs was a seminary student and and poet who spent 10 years on death row after being wrongly convicted of a crime. He was exonerated in 1977 and is now a published author who lives in Chicago. A portion of his story is featured in the play “The Exonerated.”

Cote’s teenage daughter, Tasheena, was murdered in her Arlee home in 2007. “Diane seeks to help create a world in which the trauma her family endured does not happen to others and in which victims’ families are treated with compassion,” the press release said.
