Yesterday, a group of Kansas conservative leaders gathered in Topeka to declare their support for repeal of the death penalty. Their case is straightforward: the death penalty is at odds with core conservative values – a commitment to fiscal responsibility, limited government, and valuing life.
The group supports legislation that would repeal the death penalty in Kansas and replace it with life without the possibility of parole. They presented an open letter signed by more than 20 prominent conservatives who also support repeal. Similar efforts have had strong support from conservatives but have failed to pass in previous sessions. The group hopes this session is different.
