We’re hiring for a Coalition Coordinator!

The Coalition Coordinator (“Coordinator”) is a part time position from July 1, 2018 to April 30, 2019. Monthly compensation is $2,300-$2,500, commensurate with experience. Health benefits are also offered. The Coalition will also consider applications from those wishing to work as an independent contractor. The Coordinator is supervised by and reports to the Executive Board, keeping them abreast of key developments, soliciting their feedback and ideas, and bringing them in on critical decisions. Office location/home office is negotiable; however, working in Helena is expected during the legislative session. This position will require some evening and weekend commitments, and travel (in-state) may be required. Target start date is July 1.



  • Become well informed and stay updated regarding the history and current status of the death penalty in Montana, the efforts towards abolition, and the national history and status of the death penalty.
  • Coordinate the statewide educational and legislative campaign to abolish the death penalty in Montana; implement the overall campaign strategy, ensuring that work is delegated properly, all work is geared towards reaching the goal, and all pieces of the puzzle are in place.
  • Coordinate legislative efforts to ensure lobbyists, coalition members, legislative allies, and other stakeholders are working together towards the Coalition’s goals.
  • Convene Coalition meetings, developing agendas that help move the strategy forward.
  • Build structures that help guide the Coalition with the wisdom and resources of its partners; ensure the Executive Board fulfills its governance responsibilities; engage organizations and personnel in key activities; build the larger Coalition to be representative of its broad support.
  • Communicate with both in-state constituents and the national anti-death penalty leaders the campaign.
  • Facilitate building and maintaining relationships with key abolition stakeholders, such as murder victim family members, current and former members of law enforcement, legal advocates, and faith leaders with the Coalition.
  • Manage messaging, content, and design of all Coalition resources and publications.
  • Assist in development and implementation of media and communications strategy to support program objectives.
  • Implement the fundraising plan; help manage relationships with large donors; draft and work with Executive Board submit Coalition’s annual grant proposal; manage member and donor information, track gifts and write thank you notes.
  • Take on additional program responsibilities as needed



  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Comfort with analyzing and articulating complex issues and communicating them to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with grassroots organizing, online organizing, and/or communications.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with a team of diverse people and organizations.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Personal commitment and enthusiasm to end the death penalty.
