Changing the National Narrative

Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty (CCATDP) heads to CPAC in a few weeks with a full head of steam. We’re coming off a number of successful presentations at conservative conferences and events, and conservative media are embracing our message in ever greater numbers.

Conservatives Concerned in the media

Last week, The Daily Caller, with over 10 million unique views a month, published my op-ed, Conservatives are rethinking the death penalty.

There have been more than three dozen news reports about CCATDP since the first of the year. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • The Western Center for Journalism, a conservative blog with over 1.7 million monthly views, recently featured our emergence onto the conservative scene
  • Redstate directed their readers to our website to learn more about the death penalty.
  • Libertarian Republic founder and CCATDP supporter, Austin Peterson, had me as a guest on his podcast, the Freedom Report.
  • Finally, check out this great video by CPAC award-winning political blogger, Julie Borowski, about why she changed her mind on the death penalty.

Conservatives Concerned in the field

The reaction from our presentations around the country is just as encouraging.

We connected with young conservatives at the Students for Life conference in Washington, DC and the Lipscomb University College Republicans in Tennessee recently. My presentation to the Tennessee group was packed to near capacity. Several students approached me afterwards about starting a local CCATDP group.

We’re especially excited to see increasing support among young people. A recent poll found that only 32% of young Christians support the death penalty.

This past weekend I spoke at Conservatism Outside The Box, a conference hosted by the Georgia Republican Party’s 7th Congressional District. Attendees there approached me afterwards and stated that they walked in the door staunchly supporting the death penalty, but now they don’t know if they can continue to do so.

We carry this momentum into the CPAC, where we will be an exhibitor for the second year. We’ll be joined by grassroots partners from Texas, North Carolina, and Montana, so look out for us at Booth 717. If you haven’t purchased tickets yet, you can get them here.
