2009 Legislative Session

In 2009, Senator Wanzenreid introduced SB 236, “An act abolishing the death penalty and replacing it with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.”

The bill was heard in Senate Judiciary on February 4th and passed out of committee by a vote of 7 – 5. It was debated on the Senate floor for second reading on February 16th and passed by a vote of 27 – 23. It passed out of the Senate on third reading by a vote of 27 – 23.

SB 236 was referred to the House Judiciary committee for a hearing on March 25th and was tabled in House Judiciary on March 30th.
