#90mStrong Monday: 18 years in prison, while innocent.

“When my husband Jason Baldwin was just 16, he was incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. Along with another friend and his co-defendant Damien Echols—who was on death row—Jason spend 18 years in prison through no fault of his own before his eventual release in 2011.

Jason’s story illustrates that no matter how many improvements we continue to make to our judicial system, mistakes will still be made; the people who run it are not, and cannot be, perfect.

The risk of executing the innocent is simply too high. For that reason, among many others, we must bring an end to the costly, ineffectual policy of capital punishment.”
